August 2024 - Flower Fan

Miss Barb here!

One of Miss Cali's favorite things ever is flowers. And why not? Flowers come in many unique shapes, sizes, and colors. It makes sense that they are one of her favorite things: Reading Time is all about reminding you how important and unique we are, kind of like flowers! 🌷🌸🌹🌺🌼💐🌻💮

This month is all about Flower Power! As such, our craft is flower themed. We've done lots of crafts about flowers, making them each in a new way. This way of making a flower is designed to blow you away! Well, that might be a little bit of an exaggeration. It will at least provide a nice breeze.

SUPPLY LIST

🌸 Two paper plates

🌼 Markers (for coloring and tracing)

🌹 Scissors

🌻 Tape

🪻 Jumbo craft stick

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Freehand draw a template of the petal shape on to the back of one plate. Cut it out. (Mine came out with rather square petals, so I rounded off the edges with the scissors.) Put the template on the back of the second plate and trace carefully with sharpie marker. Cut out again, also rounding off the edges. This second cut out is the one you’ll color and keep. I suggest cutting out two so you can have a nicer looking flower. You certainly can just cut one and decorate it. In my case, I made an actual template to use for the multiple flowers I needed for all the kids.

2. Using the colorful markers, use your imagination to design and color your perfect flower!

3. Tape the craft stick on. Use plenty of tape, going up/down and side to side to attach the craft stick onto the back of the flower. Attach at a petal so there is more open space for the tape.

That’s it! Enjoy your beautiful floral creation as a fan, or as a pretty thing to hang up! We are excited to see your flower craft, whether you make them at home, or if you join us for Craft Corner at our programs.
