Greetings, Reading Time Buddies! For our final stay-at-home program, Miss Cali is taking you on a journey to her very own Nana’s Farm! There is lots to discover on the farm land, but in the kitchen is where Miss Cali and her Nana have made wonderful, edible magic. Instead of a craft this month, we will be learning how to make a breakfast classic and a favorite of Miss Cali’s: biscuits!
There will not be any craft kits this month. Instead, we encourage you to gather these supplies as we learn how to bake an intricate and fundamental morning meal.
⚠️ It is important to remember that while baking is fun, it can incorporate hot things, sharp things, and other heavy-duty objects. Any kitchen activities should be family activities and adults should always be involved in the process.
You will need:
- 2 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2/3 milk
Also:
- Mixing bowls
- Mixing spoons
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Oven
- Biscuit cutter (the rim of a drinking glass can work for this)
- Baking Sheet
- Butters, Jams, Jellies, or Gravy for eating when complete
Make sure you tune into Nana’s Farm on Saturday, July 17th at 11:30am on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram! See you then!
