October 2022 - Monster Mash Masquerade Mask

It's time to get Ooky! Halloween is just around the corner, and with Halloween comes a special, spooky Reading Time with the Queens! This month we are throwing a party: less a ball, more a Monster Mash!

And of course, Miss Barb is going to help us get prepared for this Ooky and Spooky time! This month's craft will help us look the part for this Monster Masquerade with a mask that is fit for the occasion. The best part is that you can make it from stuff you have at home! All it takes is a paper plate and a little creativity!

Here is what you will need for supplies:

👹 Any color paper plate

👹 Card stock (a few colors)

👹 Construction paper (a few colors)

👹 Glue stick or school glue

👹 Scotch tape & heavier tape (if you attach the wood handle)

👹 Scissors

👹 Hole punch

👹 Large wooden craft sticks

👹 Wiggly Eyes 👀 (many sizes)

👹 PomPom (many sizes & colors)

👹 Feathers, sparkles, etc. (your choice for any other fun items you may have at home)

Kind of like our jars last month, you just want to do what makes you happy! You may want to stick to some basics; for instance, making sure your monster can talk and eat with a mouth (Sharp teeth? Baby teeth?), or ensuring they can see with some eyes (though, how many they will need is up to you). You also want to use your extra sticky tape to put a craft stick on the back of the plate. That way, you can easily hold your Monster Mask while you Mash at the Masquerade!

Follow the pictures to see how Miss Barb made her example!

Please note: this program will take place in both Idaho Falls AND Pocatello on October 15th!

IDAHO FALLS: We will be at Winnie & Mo’s, 343 A St, starting at 10:30am.

POCATELLO: We will be at Marshall Public Library, 113 S Garfield Ave, starting at 1:30pm. You can find us in the Community Room.

We love Halloween here at Reading Time! It's a wonderful time to play, because even pretending to be something as silly as a spooky, ooky monster can teach us something about who we are as people. Please feel free to come in your Halloween costume for this event! Just make sure you aren't wearing a full face mask. (Half masks and Monster Masks are absolutely fine.)

We will be posting a recorded version of this program later on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook as soon as we are able. Craft Corner will be part of that video, so if you need extra help, Miss Barb and Miss Cali will be happy to guide you!

Thank you for supporting Reading Time every month! We hope you are able to join us for in-person events, but we understand if you can't. That's why we work to ensure that the magic of our programs can be experienced wherever you are!

***This is an independent program. It is not sponsored by any government agency or institution.***
